IRELAND: Two Dublin Students Prevented from Returning to Ireland to Continue their Studies

Name: Fang Yang, 31Personal Details: Accounting Student
Police arrested Ms Yang on 19th December 1999, when staying in a friend's home in Beijing with three other Falun Gong practitioners from the UK. The British practitioners were deported after a couple of days' detention, but Ms Yang was sent back to her home town in Liaoning Province, where she was detained for forty days before being bailed out by her family.

During his stay in Beijing, Mr. Liu tried to hand in a letter of appeal to the Chinese Premier concerning the persecution of Falun Gong. He was arrested and after a couple of week’s detention, he was placed under house arrest.

JAPAN: Rescue Yoko Kaneko

Yoko Kaneko, whose Chinese name is Luo Rong, was born in China but has been living in Japan with her Japanese husband, Atsushi Kaneko. Yoko and two other Japanese Falun Gong practitioners were arrested by the Chinese police when the went to China to personally tell the Chinese people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The two Japanese practitioners were sent back home to Japan, but they kept Yoko because she is a Chinese citizen. She has been tortured both physically and mentally. Her husband, Atsushi, who was able to see her recently with assistance by members of the Japanese House of Representative said, "Yoko is not in her right mind. She seemed to be an entirely different person."

After eight months, they took Bao-Lian (and other Falun Gong practitioners) to the court without informing my family, and Bao-Lian was given a 4 year sentence. Then they allowed my elder sisters, and my father, who is over 70 years old to visit her before they put her in prison. She is now being detained in Beijing Womens Prison.
